where the wild flowers grow

0 posted 2004-04-11 01:00 AM

I am red, crumbled paper,
waiting to unfold.

I am origami,
sailing ship,
crossing rivers
and oceans.

dropping black feathers
on the tree tops,
and making up
haunting stories,

I am the ghost
that haunts my own
sleeping child,
I am the smoke
we once inhaled,
and exhaled
into our eyes.

Such a burning
and such a yearning,
could only cause tears..and denial.

Avoidance
is intolerable
yet an axiom
of our nature,
and refusal is
consuming..habitual and
addicting.

When you die,
I'll write you a song,
but for now I promise
to be silent
and pretend
that there's not a place in your heaven
for me.

The trees still sway and hum
like electrical circuits
cruising around my neck,
I am suffocating..

and I was never
one for aquatics
but I will dance until
I drown..

in thought
I thought..

paradise
was a
place in my head
so that
when you held me
I could give you
a slice of
utopia..

I could taste you grieving..

We will die
like ripples
and
wet
salted paper.

What a unique and haunting poem.  A piece for my collection.  So many outstanding lines and all so thoughtfully put together!

"I could taste you grieving..."

That is contagious...and well done.
