Maitre’ Poet

Walk in and ask for the poem de’jour, and
who shall greet you at table high?

Woman, spike your heel behind this spine
Of tallest care,

Man, sit high and quiet, oh ye soul so lost,
Speak quiet debonair…

For food, it can be a lost soul’s dream, to
Slip life’s tongue into poet’s sweetest cream

Then fall into the quagmire deep
Where love and laughter could fall asleep…

To land into Alice’s dream where teacups,
And questions, and Red Queens Reign!

All that might be lost is found in our Maitre’ Poet,
A figment’s imagine of lost status quo-et’s,
Don’t say I’m wrong, for who could explain
Those who say po-em, and those who pome,
Can they be exactly song’s same?

I smile and wink, and look back at you,
For a poet’s mind simply leaves no clue

For where we would wander and where we would stay
A poet’s transference is ours, in mislay

How like the maitre’d we are, we sit in quiet
Then wait upon stars,
Who would our fortune so portend
To exude to us our habits, lives, then when…

We listen so close, with the most gracious ear,
As we layer our poems with cream, sauce or beer,
We roast and we flame our feelings that stake
Our individual souls, that we might make

A Poet’s Medallion, that we might be test'd
To kick up our notch, n'oblige, but blessed….
