Listening to every heart

First Poet of April

Our town, not too big in size,
but enough interested
to bring one who appeared
non-pretentious, (his smile ~ so warm)
but daringly fresh
while anciently wholesome
in delivery of April’s first words
of spring

so he spoke of death.

And then of spring.

Then, he protracted on his time of first knowledge
poetry,
and the ugliness of such a thought
to be deemed worthy of understanding ~
horrors!
especially on Valentine’s day, with entreated
your mission is to write

of love.

Fourth grade 10-year olds, males, particularly,
do not wish to expound; I could not help
but smile, envisioning the younger him
making that face.

He wrote of jazz, and jazz singers,
and sung his words in a manner
never to be lip-synched,
no music but his whisper,
no tempo but his heart,
words strung as fine
as a saltwater pearled chain,
and your feet danced.

His last poems were of a matter
that truly took us, not by surprise,
but more by gasp…

as he instilled anger at a made-up
invisibility of non-existence.

And made it real.

~*~

Some, only heard the anger.

I heard the horror
of one who would create a non-existent soul;
and how his kind suffered once more
by imperfect people’s perceptions.

~*~

Sunshine, I enjoyed this.  It was disjointed, at times staccato, and I could see it and feel it.  Well done.
