A flower blooms; how sweet it grows
and unfolds unto a casual eye
the like beauty of a soul
but as a soul not all can leave
the safety of disguise
and stand upright as if naked
in the land of mortal man.

But in a lifetime, maybe more,
a season of belief
takes hold and grows a soul
amidst the weeds of humankind
unmindful of love’s essence
in the garden of their lives.

And indeed within a garden grows
and suffers through the strife of life
asking, maybe praying,
for the cool water of relief
to force an upward growth
from the base of shallow roots.

Some ask yet never blossom,
some don’t yet thrive and bloom,
but all breathe in the selfsame air
and bow to changing seasons.

As men and woman grow from youth
so too a mind or soul must age
and implant the good, the bad, the fair,
as stepping stones towards the truth.

A flower blooms somewhere, sometime,
but not now perhaps for you and I!

Helen

Thank you all so much for your kind comments and especially to you, Dave, for I think that's what I'm actually doing - studying life!
