Moved from a shack to a barn

Counties,
Nations, Principalities
Emirates and Sultanates
all have their flags

Linen rectangles
encompassing philosophies and cultures

Colorful proclamations
that fly above granite buildings
and hang somberly behind orating statesmen

Logos, of sorts, like designer labels
stitched into the fabric of atlases
falling in and out of fashion
as easily and often
as the cartographer takes up his pen

The land of the odd
though it has no geography, has its own flags
banners that, no doubt, fly over me

A man, living a life of quiet introspection
alone with a dog, in a shack on a river
with just enough of a past
and no plans for a future

Possessing dozens of notebooks
containing nonsensical verse
and haphazard stacks of arcane publications

A man whose shrine contains no icon or cross
but, feathers and bone, crystal and candles

No bear or bird, no Griffin or dragon
no image of sun, the moon or the stars
can be found on my flags

In the land of the odd
the flags are all red

This I love!!! And if I told you why I would most probably start an enormous debate on your thread...

So I will just tell you I love it and I understand..

Susan, A friend of mine pointed out all of the "red flags" that I have accumulated. Seems that there is circumstantial evidence that I am *chucking* "not as perky as I could be"

It's all good, Ed.

sigh.

I'm not as perky as I could be, either.

OMG...ya think? sigh...I may have a touch of yeti in me. (My toes are looking a bit hairy these days...)

Well, I guess that I must live "in the land of
the odd", too...now anyway. I have gone through
so many yellow flags since I've known Gary.
And, some of them have turned red, but I wouldn't stop....
And, you know what? It feels wonderful!!!!

Well, Ed, even if this isn't exactly what you meant,
it's what I thought of when I read it.
Hugs,
Ethel

Wranx,
Your flag would be a tapestry.  Excellent.
