New York City

That great spinning wheel, so hard to focus.  Where does one get on to ride?
So many faces, stranger places, people drifting in and through to hide.
The city that never sleeps, molded eyes, never looking to meet,
old and young, more nervous than some, often motionless down canvas streets.

Praying in crowds for something to eat, scrambling from Brooklyn being discreet.
Desires of a high-rise in Manhattan, high-rise box, just off the Avenue of the Americas Street, high desire hard to meet.  Beaten by the winter, the cold and snow, running to Miami for nourishment of the soul.  Jumping off that spinning chromium wheel, only considering, if ever, a return to the fold.

The dirt and grit beneath my fingernails a product from painting silhouettes high on my wall, becoming a shadow, moving in the city, that sleepless city within a wall.  Looking for the brass ring, a place to call home, a place to visit as far away from any inside dreaming thrown.

Now she sleeps only in my mind each night, deafness takes hold,
awakened to a sweat of dread and cold.  The smells are real, the streets conveying me through, quietly, a drawn breath, held knowing it is not true.
Woken by the falling fruit, the trees of Miami, all is safe now, from the city of pursuit.
New York City…

as in every quiet place in my heart, there is to a large space for the city of NY...what a giant playground it is for people of all ages...yes, my friend there is to, some bad...but the city itself to me is the "Beast" like in Beauty and the Beast who turns with love

Awesome poem JL, very much enjoyed.

Sorry:
the last line is: New York City.  I made the adjustment... I do apologize.
