Fox eyes reflected from a high beam fox cub pelts dried along streams; a hounds cry is heard through birch bark leaves fauna lives enter upset when one's deceived... Horn calls pierced a forest stillness it wasn't a badger caught in illness; a fox was the target of the royal chase shorter limbs were tested by a hunter's pace... Fox eyes glared at the reflected light a stricken animal turned heels in flight; I live in a era where game has been decimated the fauna of my youth has been sorely cremated... Once dubbed the enemy of the chicken farmer numbers reached highs when times were calmer; hunters seek the hunted in an endless fox chase to exert controls in the name of a human race... © Copyright 2004 ecrivan |

And the Jackrabbits. We barely see them anymore, except perhaps in the furthest part of SW Kansas...exterminated. But, guess what? Last year we had our pond reworked where we graze summer cattle. Found out today a beaver has taken up residence. Can you imagine my smile? We don't allow hunters into either of our pastures; the north pasture has more trees, and is a natural habitat for the whitetail...and quail, turkey, and a few other critters.... besides, of course, the cattle. Gads, I need to get out and tromp around...and take my camera. Thank you for this, Sir. It was a good read. A very good read. |

I am an animal lover There is no doubt. Not one of them should we do without. If ever I cause four feet to run A camera yes! but never a gun. Very good write Rene` |

Thanks guys for saying more than you just like the poem..Karilea sound like your animal concious, yes indeed...and one needs space for cattle raising...zippy I suppose I too would cause an animal to run at the click of a camera shutter.... |
