I Watched Him Fly

I found
a precious bird
it had sheer
wings of silk
and sang a song
I knew
the sound of
honey and milk
for a moment
held it
in my hand
but its heart
cried for the sky
his place wasn’t
in my touch
his sad eyes
looked to fly
hearts are birds
so wild and free
and I just
watched one
on winged flow
I hadn’t wanted
to possess it
so opened up
my fingers
and just
let go

A testament to your loving heart.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

It is true that if you hold a bird too tightly in your hand it will die.  If you open your hand and let it free, it may return one day.  Then, you can catch it, cook it and eat it for Thanksgiving!

*smile*  Sorry, my snide is set to high this morning.  Your poem is really a lovely poem, well written and deeply felt.
