apprehension
and aggression perhaps
even fear
upon meeting him
at first
a bit gruff
and concealing
but people are like that
and when I grasped
he was simply dying too
I then saw
the child

if we were all
just a tad
taller

Indeed...I love how you've captured this vision...seeing the child.  I look for that too; not often enough, though.  ~K~

fear drowns out our vision sometimes . . . I liked how it did not in your poem.

reb, I'm taking this as a poem about your father who you haven't seen for a long time and is dying. Am I off the mark (as I often am)?

Nice...

though I interpret it more about meeting our preconceived notions...

simple and complex, you.

I like it that way.

Hey Rebel, it's very good to see you here with
another wonderful poem. You always make me think, and
that's a very good thing.

Whatever the meaning ...this touches a truth about people and feeling and that makes it good poetry.

thank you one and all...

Deer and Blazey,

I'm not long on explaining poetry, I think the potential for uncovering insights in the reader that were unintended by the writer are one of the higher aspects of the art.

I will say though -- that my father died nigh on 4 years ago now.. but, that doesn't mean that it couldn't have been about seeing him before he died.

It could also certainly be about meeting pre-conceived notions.

I like what I'm hearing.
