A breath away could be light years
yet I breathe and feel you near
a presence or a memory,
a dream or fantasy,
and then the daylight turns to grey
I recede perhaps to pray
and watch the dark horizon
run away with my today.

Over yonder hill it hides
between the rocks and trees
in wait like a blackened thief
for the dawning of new days.

A trot, a run, a gallop;
how swiftly passes day
not sharp enough or sly enough
to hold the night at bay.

And an echo of my life
filters soft in fading light
no longer strong and fortified
by dreams and fantasy
to armour plate the brain
against harsh reality.

But enough and I arise
the setting sun doesn’t cry
but laughs in the face of night
completely unafraid.

How purposeless is fear
yet how timidly I kneel
and watch the dark horizon
run away with my today!

Helen

"How purposeless is fear" this is an amazing phrase full of hidden depths. Well done.

Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind.  Unknown

Wow, Helen, you always have so many levels of feeling and thought within your writes.
I enjoyed this one, and will come back for another read when tomorrow's morning light re-wakens my brain.

Thank you all so much for reading.  Writing from the heart is perhaps easy enough - it's living from the heart that's more difficult for those that try.  Here's to another day!!

To be human is to know the place of fear.

Well done my friend.
