I smelled the rain on the air, long before the first drops hit my head.

Walking through the woodland with the constant patter on leaves, pale light glistened like a silver thread.

Into some improbable dream i had stepped.
Flowers of many hues began to rise from the rich soil.

Beauty rose profusely about me,
suddenly from behind the darkest cloud the sun streamed down, bathing the scented flowers.
For this day nothing could spoil.

Silver birch trees shone sterling silver in the brightest light.
Birds sang as they flew, while above them a rainbow burst in a glorious arch.

Then descending from above the trees, like multicoloured snow flakes, butterflies fluttered to the newly awoken flowers.
Swallowtail, Fritillery and Monarch.

My senses reeling, i felt myself falling.
Soft damp grass rose up to cushion my fall, i layed looking up at the sky.

Clouds of white and cerise gently floated in azure.
I began to spiral into daydream.

The butterflies were telling me of their goodness and kindness to each other, their life of love, lived within the golden light stream.

Coming to in my mind, soft wind caressed my face, while flowers and butterflies danced in the sun.
Smiling in delerious happiness, i suddenly heard it, faintly in the distance, ringing.

Peeling bells, ringing in clear cadence and distorted by the wind.
Rising i walked towards where the sound was coming from.
All at once the butterflies began singing.

As one they rose and began to fill the air with colours of purest perception, the bell rung out it's silver sound.

Above the trees they went, singing a beautiful song, haunting, surreal.
As they went they spread their love all around.

GR
What a joy it is to get up early and read such a delightful poem...The plane that you reached in the daydream seems always a little out of our reach, but sometimes we find the right ladder that allows us to climb up there...out of the anger and violence of what seems our normal strata.
Butterflies and bells in this poem, have helped you in doing that.

Hi Phil

Your words painted such a vivid and most beautiful picture.

"Happiness is a butterfly, which,
when pursued, is always just beyond grasp,
but which, if you sit down quietly
may alight upon you"

Take care.........Sue

I'm anchored in you
