Down in a heart the feelings of past
recline like a baby in swaddling clothes
content for a time to sleep and to dream
till hunger awakes the demon of need.

Desperation disturbs the silence of night
to punish the ears for believing it quiet
and life giving air plays childish games
like hide and seek and catch if you can.

Oh, but the tears attest to no drought
within where the rain falls heavy tonight
lashing and pounding at windows and doors
and storming the fortress of inner resolve.

Not on the top but down under the skin
through the right side, back in on the left,
and a neat little circle the final result
confines the past right down in a heart.

And now comes the juggler all fancy in red
throwing the ball right up to the throat
with arms outstretched in anticipation
of repeating the deed all over again.

When the demon of need arises from sleep,
Don’t run for it follows right into your dreams!

Helen

Thank you all so much for your kind comments.  If we think about it, life sure is "spooky" and Bluesy, bless you for being here.
