Listening to every heart

0 posted 2004-03-19 07:17 PM

Stolen

It becomes one to stand in mild airy moments
In watch of all things natural,
To note that starlings are stealing from squirrels,
Wresting from their winter nest of twigs and stems,
In search of “new” nesting materials,

Such scavengers, they are.

Bishop’s bird, voice reckoning winter should bid
Adieu, comes over the cacophonous cries,
While somewhere mockingbird sings
A southern song, picked up from Tennessee,
Or Texas, maybe.

The winds are moist, moving from the south,
And worm mounds build up
In brown over shoots of green.
I anticipate with glee a robin’s morning eye,
Ready in pounce posture, and I plan
Coffee with cream to greet my Saturday.

Yes…

Stolen are the sighs of slightly building anticipation,
And I will steal moments before light,
Before errands and interruptions,
Before engagement of brain to thought,

With sounds of spring.

Karilea - if I whisper, will you listen?  Keeping in mind, I must stand close...

Karilea -- I loved this poem -- and, am finding myself stealing a little too much of not only the early morning but the deep night -- those mockingbirds are a total trip to listen to on about 3:00 a.m. in the morning!  Glad the robbins are arriving!

Nice to wake up and read a poem such as this..on the birthday of the spring, although you wouldn't know it looking outside here..Yes, the robins are here, and so are the redwings...and the world is filled with sounds of spring, now all we need are the sights of it...I am tired of wearing winter clothes...
Love the poem

Well, ya know I loved this part Kari!!
And I'm looking forward to mornings like these, but we're not quite to spring here yet, though the calender says we are...

Dang this is good stuff, Sunny Lady. Wonderful imagery.

And dang, too, because I've just finished one that also used the word "cacaphony."

Oh, heck, posting it anyway.

And oh, that historical fiction idea began rolling around in my head again. Where to place the town, what to call it, should it be fictional, etc.
