I have been defeated
so many times before,
but I have picked myself up
from off of that cursed floor.

How many times can I lose
without finally giving in?
How often must I fall
before I finally win?

Thought things had started to change;
that I was indeed on the right track,
I just wanted to move ahead
without ever looking back.

Things are not always
the way that they might seem,
and life is not that simple;
no, it's not just a happy dream.

Now I carry the scars
born of defeats from the past.
With time, the wounds will heal
and only the scars will last.

Oh, I might face defeat
repeating with time again;
but I'll rise up from the floor,
because I KNOW where I have been.
revised repost.

I stumble, I fall and by the grace of God I continue getting back up....

It's better than I could have planned..
it's made me who I am...

No, not scars of defeat dear lady, for we all have fallen a time or two......or more.
As long as we keep getting back up and trying another day.....we are never defeated, only "more the wiser."  hugs, Chris

Donna

"but I'll rise up from the floor,
because I KNOW where I have been."

I think you already have!  Such a positive flow comes through this poem.

huggin you Chris and Martie. The real strength isn't in wether we win or lose, it's in getting back up again.  There's no feeling like it when ones been put through another battle...

I'll rise up from the floor,
because I KNOW where I have been.

I remember those lines,  and they remain as stong as ever.

Such a powerful write Donna~  Hugs to you~

when the going gets tough, the tough get going although the thought is "have I got do this again" because I treat people as honest until they give me reason not to

Yes - very good words, good image of someone who will not go down

Beg I to differ
for were they scars
defeat you would still
'pon the ground not viewing
nor feeling the LongHaulBack
ToUprightMe

In my opinon
standng scars
are scars of victory
pain lingers yet standing
you rise in survival of self
which is the greatest victory of all

well done
