There's a lonely wind that's blowing,
Down off the Great Divide.
The prairie grass is bending...
Where the Cheyenne used to ride.

I sit astride a buckskin,
And contemplate my youth...
And wonder where the years have gone.
And, partner, that's the truth.

It seems like only yesterday,
That I was seventeen...
With itchy feet to travel,
Where the grass is always green.

I left the ranch at seventeen-
My mother cried and cried.
Daddy gave me fifty dollars,
As he followed me outside.

"I wish it could be more, son-
I know you have to go...
I guess it must be in our blood,
To follow rodeo".

For years I chased the title-
And never did get close.
But I had a ball a tryin'...
I guess that's the way it goes.

Now my hair is graying-
And I have my aches and pains.
I'm stove up in the winter,
And every time it rains.

All I have are memories,
But listen close, my friend...
If I had another chance-
I'd do it all again.

John, the true test of a good time is whether you'd do it again. It's great to read your words again.

Hey cowboy..how ya doin'?
I know you would do it all again..
I can tell by how proudly you write about those times...
Only wish you would tell us more rodeo stories.
