Christ Almighty! (not a religious poem)

Christ Almighty!

That’s what you would say
as you greeted the day
then proceeded to play
Devil’s Advocate.
Sometimes you dressed yourself up
as Court Jester.
Funny, but no one laughed except you.
You were constantly teasing me
(but never pleasing me)
in your macabre way
you played the day away
with twisted jokes.

I never understood the reasons why
you wouldn’t just call
the dog a dog,
or accept the rose for what it was,
and leave it at that.
I really do have a sense of humor,
but it doesn’t involve spitting
on the sidewalk
or throwing garbage
onto everyone else’s dream.
You had to play mindless mind games,
tagging me every chance you got
with your brand X humor.
Well, since you were always
the only one laughing,
does that mean
you got the last laugh?

Hah!
