Listening to every heart

0 posted 2004-03-03 10:09 PM

A very        minor        voice…

It was that kind of a
Most very long time ago, that moment when
Kids were kids and boys were boys and girls
Were looking for a finding they didn’t know might be.

There, in a special time, with their inner poundings that thumped,
While oceanic findings of come and go
Thundered pulses.

The heaviest of sighs could be heard in trying, in
Understanding standings that were beyond their ken,
But within their kind, a courage in beating hearts pumped faster
Than veins could carry…

Outwardly, it seemed, slight acceptings were of pillowed
And flowing sleeves, while tight pants and slender egos
Stood tall for a moment while long hair curled dreams
Into romance, and I was not even a flower girl for a moment,
But watched them that were,
And wondered what it was all about…
Alfie filled my song…
Was it just for the moment, we lived?

Virtues being what they were, and virtue loosing ground
Faster than moonshiners ran roads,
Faster…till flowing sleeves hid no more…

Soon enough a stance appeared, feminism spawned itself
So many took up a cause like fire, burning inwardly
And outwardly, factors of life long lived
As tender ages wondered what if
But still suppressed by love then…
Somewhere, the sounds of what’s it all about, Alfie…
Filled my heart….again…

I am growing up finally…somehow, somewhere,
Parents’ aprons strings are floating
Above my head
But not willingly….
For I see so much that went wrong.

You've got such a way Karilea, and I love the way you sorted it out~

I'm sure there are many of us who can identify with this, including me.

That was one of my favorite songs...I remember.  Very thoughtful and thought provoking poem, and I really enjoyed the way you put it together.

**Sigh** your words made me ponder much...to see and understand after so many mistakes are made....if only life and parenthood came with a book of simple instructions...but we can only do the best we can with what we have...Wonderful writing that made me ponder and brought many regrets....thank you...

A minor voice
I did not know a voice could
be locked in a major or minor key
still this voice speaks in whimsical facades
eternal question "what if"
still on each we go
learning we are learning
maybe the greatest step on the road
and so we walkstumblesplurt our ways
till the next sun or moon rise mirrors
spirit to soul calling muse so ever demanding
watching apron string kites fluttering
away alight away a minor ascending

"High on the Mountain, where the Sun stil Shines, and the water runs a little lazy."

There are signs here of a heavy heart, and a wistfulness for things that were not there. Beautifully written.  KJ

This one brought back some memories of Julie Andrews and of course, Alfie.  Before you have even said What's it all about, I found myself singing those words:
  What's it all about, Alfie?
Is it just for the moment we exist?
And if life belongs only to the
     strong,Alfie,
what will you lend on the Golden Rule?

   Did I get them right?

Lovely and nostalgic!

The poem is nicely arranged

The spacing of the first line is very effective...perfect title selection

Loved the poem, Sunny...
