Today you told me you were leaving
was pushed away left to hold onto nothing
spent your last hours wrapped in deep thought
whilst I spent my hours  watching afar
though preying you didn’t notice.

Whispers from afar could be heard
distant yet close
across the room you stood alone.
mumbling to yourself near the window
watching your reflection within the glass.

Rain from outside shattered the silence
I looked passed you into the reflection
wondered were those real tears
or raindrops outside rolling down your cheeks.

Attention was drawn to my own thoughts
aged memories from our past began to play
pictures, images, created tapestry of my mind.

Never noticed your gaze leave the window
eyes now watching me waiting for a chance
then you moved almost tiptoed to the door
making no sound nor speaking no words.

I remained trapped in a thousand dreams
shifting from memory to memory
where you and me were always together.

A rose pressed against my face
the fresh aroma of romance upon my lips
memories had taken me back
to the place where we joined as one.

That night I asked you to marry me
thought that meant we’d be together always
you said yes and we took those vow’s
yet broke my trust slept around
instead of been with me on our wedding night
you were with someone else as I laid alone in bed.

The memories fade back into the room
noticing now im alone
I walked to the door closing memories within
still all that remained was a sliver-gold ring.

Love is the strangest animal. Wild or tame, it still needs to be leashed... don't worry friend, you will love and be loved again!

Dear Lee, this poem contains beautiful, melancholic images. A very intense write, dreamlike. Love especially the rain-tear association.
