Smoothly gliding through the channel,
slipping through the Inside Passage,
the turbulence suddenly subsides.
Forward movement of the bow
breaks all resistance.

We are on our way,
you and I.
The day is marked by calendar as February.

The ship's captain suddenly cries out
'orcas off the port side, folks.'
I am jolted back to the Malaspina's viewing lounge,
and the majestic snow capped peaks...
rugged reminders nature still rules
these northern waterways.
Pale blue skies belie the potential for danger
at every bend, as fog hovers quietly
over the lighthouse on the island.
Gentle shift of rudder guides us
through the Narrows as dusk approaches,
and the course is lit up
like segregated Christmas tree lights,
green to the left, red to the right,
as they guide us safely through to the north
keeping us deeply channeled,
away from treacherous shallows on either side.

A parallel to my life's journey perhaps?

'Hold her steady' the captain says,
stay the course,
follow the synchronized heartbeats
and the inside passage will carry you safely
to your destination.

Some see the Inside Passage as a waterway between Bellingham, WA and Skagway, AK.
But the metaphor teases me
with poetic reality.

Donna, thanks for reading. I've been traveling the past couple of weeks, back to Alaska.
Ron, LOL, yes, I've heard about shoals.
Thanks Chris! I've missed you!

It is so good to see you here,
you sound happy,  and you're writing is better than ever!

Loved that verse most of all~ Hugs Kacy~

Hi Kacy,
So glad to hear you are enjoying your "new home".  I hope you can make that trip again in June to compare the remarkable differences.  There are so many places to explore, and I hope you'll keep writing about them so we can enjoy your adventures!
