V Line

through the mist
I hear them
bouncing echoes
off the trees
from a watery shadow
squawking nervously
as they plan
their trip home
again to dot
blue skies in
a northern return

They woke me early this morning, seems there's a note of anticipation in their voices. I can't say I'll be glad to see them leave either; the pond will be quiet in their absence. Thanks for this one, Helen, you must have been reading my mind...

*smile* They stop to rest and feed along the river that is near me.  Sometimes there are thousands.

When they are on the move, their sounds herald dawn and dusk.
