I hope that you outlive me;
there is nothing you can give me now
that would not leave a bitter taste.
I wouldn't say the tears we spent together
were wasted on the way,
but sitting here with time
to think of just how full of emptiness I am,
I will admit
I really hope
you live long enough to understand.

never fails...
I read your words and am left thinking or feeling things I am not sure I usually have the courage to think or feel on my own...

guess I should thank you for that...
so next time you're in town..I'm buying..

Something no one would want to find
in the papers left behind.
Better they read it now, while you
are still living...
and make amends.

You ARE remarkable...and I agree with Cpat.
Your writing takes us places we know we
don't want to visit, but it's so hard to
click out, once you're engulfed...

Thank you, Sir.

Wow, this one sure hits the reader hard. You write with such power dear icebox. Chris

Powerful words, with that hint of the tenderness you hold inside...
I love how you express yourself.  ~K~

You do make us face things we really don't want to.
But, you do it in a realistic and gentle way.
You have the kindest eyes..have I told you that?
Well done sir.
Hugs~

It seems you have touched on something that many understand...a sadly honest statement of heart.

Not everyone has the capacity to understand, no matter how long they live.
Which may have to do with what has been said or not said,
and to what limits they are willing to go.

Just my take icebox~ as always, your poetry is worth the pondering~

Whoever it is, don't expect them to understand. Ever.  Most people don't even notice there's anything there to be understood, and the rest of them think they do.  Also, to paraphrase Homer Simpson, "Just because I don't care, doesn't mean I don't understand."  But aside from arguing with you, , I have to note that this is an excellent poem.
