Someday

I always thought that “Someday” I would find the time I’d need,
But Someday never came about – no matter how I’d plead;
It seemed like chasing shadows, for it stayed a day ahead,
Within my sight, yet out of reach – intangible instead.

The simple pleasures I postponed, could wait, I justified,
They’ll still be there, if not today, then “Someday Soon” I lied;
An hour here, an hour there ... the time would quickly fly,
While Someday stayed ahead of me – refusing to comply.

Each morning my intentions would be promising to start,
I’d vow, “Today’s my Someday,” but my plans would fall apart;
My days would run together, and my Someday never came,
The time would pass, I’d set things back, and try to shift the blame.

Excuses? They were plentiful, I never had to pause ...
No time today, no money – every time a different cause;
The weather or the distance, even age became my plea,
I blamed them all, for I could not admit that it was me.

It seemed to go on endlessly, this ruse that I would play,
Pretending that I’d find the means or time along the way;
But somewhere down the line I learned that Someday isn’t real,
And all my good excuses lost their limited appeal.

There are no guarantees in life – no certainties professed
That good-intentioned Somedays will appear as they suggest;
One misplaced opportunity – once choice that I delayed,
Could be that chance I lost to time that cannot be replayed.

Those Somedays simply have no place upon my waiting list,
No longer will I gamble, nor assume that they exist;
“Today” is how I choose to live, and so I’ve made a vow,

I will not risk another chance ... for “Someday Soon” is “NOW”.

(big angel hugs) Oh Kit, "someday" is truly one of the most impatient words in all language, dearest friend, by saying "someday" literally is either being half-hearted of any situation or has doubt lingering in their mind! (sigh) One can regret too much if he puts "someday" over "this day", God Bless You! Yay, CONGRATULATIONS ON 14,000 WONDERFUL POSTS!!! (does happy 14K dance) You are a special friend to us all always, yay, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Kit, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

  Did you send this to all of us who rely on "soon" as in enough time to get things done?  LOL...I needed this!  Congrats, my friend, on your accomplishments thus far - you know I know you still have even more in store!

Oh, well I think I'll reply now, instead of later when I'm more awake, or tomorrow when I have more time, or next week when I could bump this up.  Obviously, I'm learning from your message already!  I needed that!  Thanks, Kit, and congrats.  ~K~

I always identify with your poems. They are slices of life ~ and you depict them so realistically! They are profound and real! You write with such wisdom and your wit comes shining through so many of them. Yes, to me, a poem by you is truly a Kit-Kat to be savored and enjoyed!

You know... there are some words that you simply can't read without hearing whispers of change... however painful one considers the prospect. *S* I'm definitely guilty of waiting for someday... I think it's time some of those somedays are given priority. *S*

Wonderful write, dear lady... Every poem of yours leaves me wishing you wrote more often... perhaps SOMEDAY? *S* Congratulations on your milestone! *S*

Hi Kit,

The whole poem was extraordinary! But this part stuck out
the most for me though.

“One misplaced opportunity – once choice that I delayed,
Could be that chance I lost to time that cannot be replayed.”

One can only wonder, how many times that happens,
just in one person’s lifetime?

I guess the best way to try and avoid that from happening,
would be to follow advice such as this:

“Today” is how I choose to live, and so I’ve made a vow,
I will not risk another chance ... for “Someday Soon” is “NOW”.

Thanks Kit

Wisdom like this just doesn’t come around all that often

I think these words of yours, will resonate, for years to come

I know they will for me

Now, now, now, Kit! You KNOW how much I love this one! Perfect rhyme, perfect meter, perfect thoughts....it's perfect!

You could get me to change my philosophy of never do today what you can put off until tomorrow!

Congrats on your wonderful milestone, Kit. ALthough your number of posts is a microscopic part of your importance to the site, it is nontheless a very praiseworthy achievement.

So write some more poetry....NOW!!!

Kit, this is simply wonderful and so so true, thank you for the ponder of someday, how often we all do think alike as if there is time enough to do all. Sometimes we don't lose the thoughts of a child.

Sincerely
Rick

Seymour Tabin:  Thanks Sy … Me three, me four!  Thanks always for your wonderful morning reads that place a smile on my face so often.

Poet deVine:  My muse has to stop using “Someday” too though Sharon, – I seem to have little control over her, lol. Thank you so much for the kind words, my friend.

Nan:  Rofl, now, now Nan … you just reminded me of a song at Disney World’s General Electric display where you watch 4 generations of families go through from candles to modern electronic technology. In the “old days”, they used to sing a little song something like this every time the stage changed, “Now is the time … now is the best time … now is the best time of our lives”.  Funny how that popped into my head!  That was my favorite exhibit …thanks for the now’s Nan!

Mistletoe Angel:  That was a great description Noah “someday is truly one of the most impatient words in all language”.  I think you’re right about it being half-hearted too. I want whole-hearted … half just won’t do. Thanks sweet Noah.

Kethry:  I agree Kethry … I think we need to insist on it as well. Thanks so much for the kind words. I really appreciate it!

Sunshine:  LOL, although there’s a few of us who rely on “soon”, the inspiration for this actually came from a conversation with my mom on the weekend. She was telling me about a few things she’d put off and finally allowed herself to do. We were actually talking about how “someday” she and dad would do “this” or “someday” she and dad would do “that” – everything from visiting a terminal friend over in England to just buying a beautiful wire art wall hanging that seemed a little too much money. We both agreed that “Someday was Now”.  I’m happy to say … she bought that wall hanging, and now has tickets booked for England, lol!

Susan Caldwell:  And I’m happy to be here too Susan, thank you for the kind comment.

Kahlil:  LOL, I’m glad you replied “now” Kahlil … that was a sweet response, thank you!

Enchantress:  Thank “you” for all you do here at Passions as well Nancy, and for letting me know you enjoyed this piece. Much appreciated!

Earth Angel:  LOL, Linda I’m so glad you’re feeling better and are back!  What a wonderful response. You had me smiling from ear to ear. Think I’ll go grab a Kit-Kat now, lol!  Keep taking care of you!

Southern:  Oh Ruth … I loved that phrase “whispers of change”. I think that in itself could turn into a lovely central point to a poem. Thanks for the beautiful words, I really appreciate it.

passing shadows:  I’m glad you enjoyed and it was just what you needed Dixie. I got a little tired of watching them pass me by too … glad to know I’m not alone, and thank you!

Endlessecho:  Thanks so much for the kind comment Endlessecho, I’m glad you enjoyed!

Margherita:  That was lovely to hear Margherita … thanks so much for the congratulations as well. Much appreciated.

Gentle Spirit:  Thank you Donna, for letting me know you enjoyed. I’ve loved every 14,000 shares!

Marge Tindal:  Huglets right back to you Marge … thanks so much … I do appreciate it very much!

Richy:  It does make you stop and think, doesn’t it Richy?  How many times have we lost that one chance … that one opportunity?  It makes my mind spin. Thanks so much for the additional ponder … I love that!

Martie:  Thank you so much for everything Martie. I’m glad the piece flowed well. I find I’m taking a lot more time on that aspect these last two years, so I think that’s why my writing has slowed down a bit, lol.  I really appreciate all your kind thoughts … thank you.

Sadelite:  Thanks for the congratulations Sadelite!  Yes, I think someday is everyday here at Passions. There’s been very little time over the last 4 years that I haven’t been here to either read or run around in the background, lol.  Thanks for letting me know you enjoyed!

Balladeer  LOL, now Michael, you know I wouldn’t want to change you … I love ya just the way you are!  Thanks so much for the sweet words, my ‘Deer.  Maybe “now” is the time for a duet though, lol?

Garysgirl:  Thanks so much for all “you” do Ethel … and for your warm comment. I appreciate you too!

BluesSerenade:  Thanks so much for the kind words and the congratulations BluesSerenade … I’m very grateful to know that you enjoyed!

Rick:  I hope we never lose the thoughts of a child as well, Rick. It sure does make one ponder though … Thanks so much for your lovely response!

Celestecat:  Thank you for the kind words, celestecat (love your name by the way) and welcome to Passions!

~*~

Thank you everyone, for all of your kind words … I truly am grateful for all of you.

Much appreciation to all,
/Kit

So very true, Kit and I hate to admit it but I have been living, waiting for that "someday" to arrive...

so I know what you mean and am trying hard to make it "now"...not an easy thing to do.

wonderful rhyming as always
