~*~*~

Patiently I sat under an old oak tree
chasing after summer in my mind
waiting and watching for the sun to claim me.

Turning leaves and tossing out verses
like a poem I want to breathe life into
unable to hold my thoughts still.

There is a different rustle in the wind
an unfamiliar sound
so quiet now.

Lost in shadows behind the ridge
twilight flickers in the night
puffing through a smokey haze.

Rising out of blue flames
sprinkled with sparkles
I wish could remain forever.

Filling the air with a sweetness
that hangs from lofty moonbeams
slanting sideways across the sky.

Dusted with silver stars
a time in a phrase rearranged
echo's through the years.

Some nights I can almost reach them
but I know in my heart
I cannot contain them.

For they are not meant to hold
or keep as my own
but to carry me over in dreams.

An excellent poem! Loved the end, "For they are not meant to hold
or keep as my own
but to carry me over in dreams." Grover.

Sorry, I was grillin'...

For the first time in months (ok, it seems like months) the ground is more green/brown than white.  Can summer be far away???  Ah come on, humor me.

Bluesy, there is magic that softly spills from your pen.  This is beautiful!

Great poem -- "For they are not meant to hold, or keep as my own, but to carry me over in dreams." Those words echo true for me, as well.
