a good friend's son could bear the pain of life no more recently and committed suicide - this got written as a result...

They say goodbye so finally
We want more of them
But their pain takes them away
We want so much to ease the pain
Sometimes it seems we have permanent stains
For tears that chase and flow so free
Please just let them see our love
Let them know we ache just so
Much for them and feel so useless
We can’t seem to help
Maybe we even cause some pain
The fix they seek is so permanent
We miss them so our hearts nearly destroyed
When we hear they reached for pain relief
And we lose them to the relief they seek
How awful every one who knows them feels
What more could we do
The constant self appeal
If we just…
If they just…
A million and one times this is thought and voiced
Why must there be such pain inside
That chases them to suicide

Such a good write about a terrible situation Paul.

All the "if only"s and "why"s... and no answers... for us or them. I'm so sorry for your grief.

thanks nancy and suthern - it is such a difficult thing for a family to experience - I know as I had a sister and an uncle who died that way...

Paul, an important write this is.  I truly believe there is an epidemic going on among our young ones -- it starts so early now.  Think about it, we did not get world news on an hourly, or even daily basis when we were growing up.  Mass communication (although appreciated) is a mass destroyer of innocence.  I am so very sorry for your friend.

Paul

"The constant self appeal
If we just…
If they just…"

It is so very hard to feel closure when death comes in this way...I'm sure your understanding ways have helped your friends as much as this kind of pain can be helped.

Paul, this is very touching for me, as both my mother and brother took the early train out

my heart goes out to you and your friend

Martie - thanks for the very nice words - it is ver hard to find closure as you say...I hope they find a way to deal with this.  Their son tried several times and now has succeeded.

Truly a difficult question to get answered. It leaves questions in the mind without answers. I am sorry for your loss. You wrote about a very difficult subject very well.
