I feel I should be writing a love poem tonight
Tonight, being the night for such things
or so “Hallmark” would have me believe

But, I keep getting lost in the bells of her giggle

The sound I imagine tulips would make
when they throw off the blankets of winter
and lift their faces toward the promise of spring

When, once again, I pick up my pen

The page before me darkens, swirls
and draws me into the midnight of chocolate
that lives in her eyes

Where I am caught for a time
in the concert of lights that have been sprinkled about
by mischievous angels

I am distracted by images of her hair in the wind

Flowing like all of the banners of all of the men
who have ever met and fought on green fields of belief
under bright blue domes of notions and nations

The living, free to follow their furling pennants back
to whatever place their heart would dwell,
leaving the dead to nourish the heather

But finally, I am undone by her hips

The curves that encompass her remarkable machinery,
firm roundness that hold the idea of her firmly planted
in that place where love first notices that it lives,

And so, I sit here wondering just how I could ever convey
those myriad things that mystify me still

I swear you have us all swooning here with your words! Sue better tie you up sir because if YOU are loose there will be a stampede to fight for your affections! This is simply the most caring and honestly loving Valentine I've ever read. Sigh.

You actually made me envy your dog (and Sue) for a minute there, but only a minute you old softie you!  This was absolutely so darn beautiful - when do I leave for New Orleans? Hey, the blanket is coming but then so is Christmas!

Today I'm only moving clouds, tomorrow I'll try mountains.

this is like listening to a fairy tale...the images are stunning...the softness of your words linger in the air to inspire...what grace and form...so totally elegant and unmatched...you are both, very rich people...do you know that?

She flits about the tulips
flying haphazard,
as a butterfly
or a hummingbird.

Dancing upon this flower
and that,
searching for that one place
where she can rest her wings
to be fulfilled.

She spies, hiding
within the underbrush
a bush in bloom.
A fiery flora, flowing
from each twig burst
of Spring.

And settles herself
upon gentle limb,
eyes dropping quicker than the Sun.

And slept
as that of a child,
comforted.
