Come, little one,
This day is done.
It's time that you had your rest.
You're tired from play
Run hard all day
Now settle right here in your nest.
You're safe from harm
The bed's all warm
See, it's just waiting for you -
And here, just look
Your favorite book!
I'll read you a story or two.
The moon will rise,
Now close your eyes;
Sleep until morning's new light.
Angels will keep
Watch as you sleep
Sweet dreams, little one, good night.

Suthern, sorry it took me so
long to reply to this

But when I read it, I fell asleep...

Slept like a baby, I did....

Very tender and sweet lullaby
you have here...

Now if I can just record it,
for those times I get all fudgety
and need to go nigh nigh...

AwwwwSweetSuthern~
I love the lullabye ... and I ALWAYS trust the instincts of a five year old ... sooooooooo, Luke, I'm with you ... 'no sing' .....

I believe you, Suthern ... I've heard you say it often enough !
I'm taking you at your word ! (and Luke's)

BUT ... I'm gonna sing it to Delaney~
Yep ... I can !

I was reading and thought I heard someone singing a lullaby so I stepped in and found it to be you.  Hmmmmmm ... and this from one that said she would only hum.  I wonder if more exists that just this one you shared.  Very nice lullaby and one I am sure he will treasure more and more as he grows into life.

Yanno Ruth, there is nothing warms your heart more than hearing a child sing the lullaby you wrote and sang to them in the wee years, when they get sleepy in the back set of the car ~ absolutely nothing compares to that warm sensation that hits!  I hope this wee man, remembers this one and gives someone that feeling one day.

my little one’s favorite was hush little baby…but when we get to a certain part...ahem... we seem to have customized it a bit…

it goes
hush little baby don’t say a word
mamma’s gonna catch you a hummingbird
if that hummingbird won’t fly
mamma’s gonna show you the evening sky
when the nighttime shadows fall
mamma’s gonna hear the crickets call
when their song drifts from afar
mamma’s gonna show you a shooting star
when that star drops down from view
mamma’s gonna read a book with you
when that story’s all been read
mamma’s gonna bring you your warm bedspread
if that quilt begins to wear
mamma’s gonna bring you your teddy bear
if that teddy bear won’t hug….
ok…now here’s the part where the story goes awry …lol
one night we were just being goofy in bed and so I sang
if that teddy bear won’t hug….we’ll punch him in the nose
and tell him to be good…..(complete with one hand punching the other sound effects)
and lolol…the lullabye has forever been changed, for now it ends in giggles instead of sleep…….

I love yours *big smile*….its no wonder he finds such love in your arms that he doesn’t want you to leave

JM: Not a word, hunh? LOL You should be THANKING me for not singing! LOL Thank you very much! *S*

Marge: ROFLMAO... Wise lady you are. *G* Of course... he tells ALL adults "no sing!"... and then proceeds to sing at the top of his substantial lungs... cause it's okay for kids to make noise. *G* Thank you! *S*

Mark: Well, HOWDY, cowboy!!! *S* Of course more exist... I'm the poetic packrat. *G* Thank you very much... I hope he will treasure it one day... but I suspect I'll always get a shhhhhhhhhhhhhh. *G*

Cpat: Thank you so much, my friend... I'm so glad you like! *S*

Marge: Hmmmm... Yanno... you may be the first person in my entire life to tell me to belt it out... you wearing earplugs? LOL

Blues: I thank you so much, sweet lady... I like knowing you like. *S*

Mysteria: He fights that sleep monster with all his heart... so I don't think I'm likely to hear him inviting it with a lullaby. *G* But I can always hope! *S* Thank you so much!

jellybeans: I love your customization... though that poor teddy does have my sympathy! LOL Thank you so much, my friend. *S*

I heard someone say, just this weekend...that we need to be getting back to basics, with lullabys, and home baked cookies...

I think he was right.

Enjoyed this, AND the responses it invoked, suthern...
