Bright sun in February
Peels-off the snow crust;
An old log, black as coal
(Swept by golden brooms)
Becomes,
A bandstand for the grouse.
*
Thumping on the hill;
Muffled sounds of drums and bass
(Behind my house) but winters
Hag, is slow at changing dress;
Which pushes open concert dates
Two months ahead of this rehearsal.
*
Other entertainers wait in wings;
Peepers sleep
Beneath the stage-drape
Leaves, that fell in autumn;
Remote in gelid dreams,
Heart-beats four to minute.
*
Resting in mock graves
Near death, half-froze
Behind the curtain, though
In their frosted brains
Repeat, natures given lines
Of frog-songs they will sing;
When spring time cues their chorus.
*
The theatre is closed, unheated,
But my mind is stamped already
So I try to enter, but early
Signs of spring have come,
Far ahead of curtain time;
Have placed me harried.
The guards of seasons block the door,
I'm turned away, told "come back later"
"Your ticket price is paid by waiting,
You may enter free, at end of winter."

Your enchanting poem brought deep emotion. You have caught a wondrous atmosphere. It shows how deeply you perceive Nature's breath.

Wanted to quote the above lines ....

Touched me in a special way!

Over here, over here! I have a melody to share. They are new to this land and I 'd would love you to hear. The baby Cardinal singing off key and the baby rabbits drumming to a different beat.So come on over here. The door is not locked. Come share this new orchestra of the band called nature.
Cute poem.
Love and hugs Bon-Bon

There is much enchantment in reality, and it tests the emotions in special ways...I live by breathing natural air...thank you
second reply:
The peepers are special, I know they are still alive, and that that living is the essence of hope...They are breathing shallow now in the gathered gloom, but soon their lungs swell with songs of light and love.
