Let’s Split the Blanket

Andrews County isn’t big enough for both of us.
Hightail it out of town, if you don’t mind.
Point your pickup west, straight on down the Eunice Highway,
and you can leave the whole damn state behind.

Because, Texas isn’t big enough for both of us.
You smell worse than the poison gas in spring,
when the fog that lies beside the highway kills a man
and pumpjack tunes make rich old yankees sing.

Come to think, you could head south on into Mexico,
The USA without you would be fine.
You don’t have to worry, I’m not in any hurry,
and I’ll stop shooting when you hit the line.
