A Compassionate Heart
~ By Sue ~

I went to work this morning
I felt an ache inside my heart
They did not get her up
I went to check on her
There she lay in that bed
Breakfast and lunch was fed to her
What little I could get her to eat
At breakfast she drank all of her juice
At lunch she drank a glass of liquid
And ate so very little
I have watched her as she grows thinner
She is nothing but skin and bones
I remember her sweet laughter
Whenever the music played
Being unable to walk
She moved her feet and her hands
The music always livened her up
Now, I watch her while laying in that bed
I feel the tears inside my heart
As I watch her just lying there
Then when the day comes to an end
And I am driving home
My thoughts turn towards tomorrow
With fear of even going in
And maybe finding, she is no longer there
Sometimes, my job seems to hard
The compassion I feel deep inside
I give it all to them
It is so easy to get attatched
I can not help myself
When it comes time for them to go
It is so hard for me to see

Yes, you certainly do have a kind and caring heart Sue. Your job isn't easy by no means. You've written your feelings well. hugs, Chris

Oh, Sue

Your words struck a chord with me.  Last year I became a volunteer in my local community and I have been visiting an 83 year old lady named Merle every Friday.  We just sit and talk for two hours and lately she hasn't been well and I don't know how I will cope emotionally if something happens to her.  I plan to do more voluntary work this year but being a sensitive soul like yourself, I think I will find it hard to deal with when it comes the time for them to part.

Thank you for a most compassionate write and for exposing your beautiful heart.

Take care.......Sue

Sue, compassion is not as hard as loving. And you, my friend, have a great loving soul!  This is what your poem says to me.

So much caring and compassion is tough on you... but just what they need. *S*

Sue, this shows what a loveng and
compassionate heart you do have. All
of us already knew that, sweet lady.
This poem really touched my heart.
