Between the Lines

I Guess

I feel the tracing of my heart
'tween laughter and the tears
each start of every morn,
in length of day and years.

I circle in the shadows,
a searching still unclear.
No mercy do I place on self
as longings keep me here.

The frozen winds of frozen words,
the silence wallowed in.
Moment's truth creating hold
of common thoughts again.

I path myself unevenness,
tripping over numb.
A kiss is just a kiss, I guess
to something I succumb.

It plays my lips in notes of warmth,
tuned to dance the dreams,
those that rest in lips of yours
that curve to meet my seems.

And seams that need the sewing
where threadworn by the rain
and soaking of the fears of "not"
that overflow my brain.

I guess I am no different then
those aged in passions past.
Someday I hope to overcome
and hold a kiss to last.
