I stand before you, wondering..
The clasp opened, beckoning me to
touch, raise the worn lid, hearing the
squeal of hinges.   Afraid, yet mesmerized
by your somber and silent appeal.

“Here inside lies destiny”....I hear these
words whispered within my mind.
Shivering, lifting ever slowly...
Absorbing that which is before me.
A smile overcomes me...as dreams
come to me, of days gone by and
wings to fly...of shirts and shoes
worn and spent...of carpets that lay
before a fire....of hats and trinkets
long forgot.

You sit there, in your staunch wisdom,
knowing that I would revel, reveal,
giggle with glee and shed tears of
longing for a time only you and I
know...for you hold that part of me
that I often have longed for...my
youth.....my dreams....
my destiny....

Barry -- looks like your muse is back!  These lines:

"You sit there, in your staunch wisdom,
knowing that I would revel, reveal,
giggle with glee and shed tears of
longing for a time only you and I
know...for you hold that part of me
that I often have longed for...my
youth.....my dreams....
my destiny...."

......beautifully penned (along with the rest of it, of course)..............jo

Barry...There are very few people who could write about an old trunk and bring out the destiny of dreams. But you have done just that with this superb poem. I loved every word of it. ***Ivy Rose
