Yesterday came of swelter’s wings
as giant oaks spread the earth in shadows
and I cried as birth brought in a new day
and love’s eyes caressed each tear.

Yes, yesterday came, then, as the wick
wore, as grasses grew and shrunk away
from the shearing blades....as a boy
walked a line, precariously, but
straight...

Time whisked the years aside, as nights
remembered haunted the mind, as days
were shrouded in mist of clouded memories
and yesterday...yes, yesterday...seemed
even further from the outstretched
hands...and I cried...

It was then, before yesterday came and tomorrow
was born. Life lay in delicate wrap....as each
tomorrow cloaked yesterday...as tears
fell upon the summer's rain.

And now I wonder....what have I learned
from yesterday.....that I might taste
today...before tomorrow is no more...
And there is only yesterday...

Sorry,  but I am not in much of a writing mood
this evening....(attempting to wake my muse)

Barry...You reflect, and there are not always answers, but there is poetry...and it is always good.  How much time is there between yesterday and tomorrow?  Not much, but there is the question.

Magnus,
Sure wish I could write that beautifully when I wasn't in the much the mood for writing!  Well done, Sir.

(big angel hugs) God Bless You, sweet friend, I believe we all need some time to breathe and put down our quill before we pick it up again, sweet friend, that's what can keep our minds refreshed as we look around and get inspired, yay, here's muse-reviving hugs, I love this, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Barry, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Hey Sailor!

This was outstanding for someone who thinks they have to look for their muse!

If only my muse were as awake as yours... sigh.  Beautifully written as always.

Hi Barry, for someone not in the mood for writing, you did one heck of a great job.

My dad was retired USN.

Hugs, Marti

I take no credit for my poems. Although I write them, I feel
more like I transcribe them. It's just a matter of listening.
