That day, not so long ago,
I couldn't help the grin
as you and Mom walked hand in hand
toward the swings ~
It was a picture waiting to be taken.
Over fifty years of best friends playing together,
and oh how she giggled with each gentle breeze.
A moment captured in time,
I saw you both as you are now ~
and as you were ~ then;
When your love was fresh,
the marriage new ~ so much of life ahead.
Now, a short year later ~ and
the swing is empty, you seem lost Dad.
But yesterday as you walked hand in hand
with little Annie, your sweetheart's namesake,
I heard you remember that day in the park,
as you pushed your granddaughter on the swing ~
I felt a whispering breeze ~
As that giggle you loved ~ returned.

Beautiful write!
I'd say you met this challenge very well.
Left me with tears and a lump in my throat.
Well done.
