I Only Ask

today I light a candle
from a place I once gathered
whose time is now long done
tears wash me in sorrow of
this curse being so blessed
being born with a torrid heart
vines twine me to full yield
and to just winding twigs
in this dry layer of brush
but I hold in my hands both
today I mourn its passing
and hope for a different future
twice now to burn in this place
the passion once here so strong
now white burns to hot melting ash
so that tomorrow shall bring
the birth of hope of another day
today I light a candle for thee
I only ask you light one for me
