180° 11th Hour
By: Noah Eaton
1/31/04

Emblazoned scars,
transparent reporting,
stale candy bars,
your flesh is spontaneously burning
From bergamot lights,
your blood is boiling,
your veins are occulded,
no time for embolectomy

There's blood on your clothes
(it was my own)
There's blood on your clothes
(it was my own)
There's blood on your clothes
(it was my own)
There's blood on your clothes
(it was my own)

Your skin feels just like rawhide,
they can twist you around their waists
Your skin feels just like rawhide,
they can twist you around their waists

Seventy hours a week,
your fingers numb as stone,
staring at bloodshot eyes,
in an unsanitary bathroom alone
Inhaling, exhaling formaldehyde,
timekeeper's watching, but there's no time
The Lord and his Taylor are swindlers,
as are Abercrombie and Flinch,
the code of conduct is side-stepped,
the fire exit is impacted

There's blood on your clothes
(it was my own)
There's blood on your clothes
(it was my own)
There's blood on your clothes
(it was my own)
There's blood on your clothes
(it was my own)

Your skin feels just like rawhide,
they can twist you around their waists
Your skin feels just like rawhide,
they can twist you around their waists

I don't want to burn, I want to jump from the roof
I don't want to burn, I want to jump from the roof...

I'd rather walk the world naked,
then be part of your world trade organization,
they have to see the scars of these crimes committed,
full disclosure is at my discretion
Maquiladoras are flooded by the unscrupuous,
everyone knows that you're an excellent actress,
cause oppression tastes like cyanide,
but restitution tastes like lime
Of dress shirts of Guatemala, baseball caps of the Dominican
you only get a third of what you need to raise and feedyour infants,
all this bamboozling, fast shuffling, hoodwinking sharp practice,
is coming to an end, you four-flushers,
does their sweat taste sour to your tongue...
...does their sweat taste sour to your tongue...

There's blood on your clothes
(it was my own)
There's blood on your clothes
(it was my own)
There's blood on your clothes
(it was my own)
There's blood on your clothes
(it was my own)

Your skin feels just like rawhide,
they can twist you around their waists
Your skin feels just like rawhide,
they can twist you around their waists

When you've stolen their right to breathe,
does it ever make you sweat?
When you've stolen their right to breathe,
do you ever sweat...

...give them back the right to brrrrreeeeeaattttthhhhhheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.........

Noah,

This was a very impactful political statement. I can feel your passion and fustration. I have hope that your spirit and those of your generation and like mind, will stand together to make the changes we need. This election is one peaceful vehicle towards that endeavor. Though we may feel powerless at times, I believe we can make the system work. Very good write, I enjoyed. It sure got me to thinking Sweet Noah.

Wow, Noah...no need to guess where you stand on this one. I agree with SG...it's going to take your generation to make the difference. Intense write.

Yay, thank you everyone!

This poem is all about the horrors of sweatshops in the world. The title was basically a numerical riddle saying "An end to exhaustion!".

All throughout third-world countries up to today, a majority of mothers and daughters who make up the majority of workers who make the clothes for companies like Gap and Old Navy and Abercrombie and Finch continue to be given very poor respect and treatment for their excruciating work. Many only get pennies in a days work, in fact in the Dominican Republic all those workers who make $20 baseball caps sold by BB&B only get eight cents a day per shipment, while the companies get the profit. The Triangle Shirtwaist Company fire in 1911 that claimed 146 lives is one major example of the tragedies that these hard workers face, working under terrible civil rights and care, from dirty bathrooms to dehydration to uncomfortable chairs, not even getting enough pay to both raise and feed their infants or children. Ninety-three years later, little has been improved on keeping the 1911 tragedy from repeating itself and giving workers the rights and health care and good pay they deserve.

In a way, yes Electra, this does tie to the upcoming election too, as though many of us are not impoverished like the third-world countries, we have been victims to a corrupt government. New York and Los Angeles have sweatshops of their own.

God Bless You All!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Noah,
Very powerful indeed!  Also, the title!
I especially was taken by:

"Your skin feels just like rawhide,
they can twist you around their waists
Your skin feels just like rawhide,
they can twist you around their waists"

I could hear this, feel this, smell this, touch this...

Noah you are a true champion of the oppressed,
and of the downtrodden...

A modern day Robin Hood, who stands ten feet tall.

I’m glad to know you Noah.
And I’m much the better for it.

Your Pal, Always,
Richy
