Love’s Touch

There’s nothing but sorrow waiting he said
Then I watched as in pain he bowed his head
My heart was wrung seeing the tears he shed
And I had to tell him that love wasn’t dead

I approached him as he wept there silently
Then touched his arm saying to him softly
I know you don’t know me but believe me do
Love will always be there, it still waits for you

His eyes were clouded as he blinked back tears
And I could see his soul was beset with fears
He looked so sad, and I held out my hand
I looked deep into his soul saying I understand

He almost gasped when I touched his face
Trying to removed tears watered trace
I know you’ve no idea who I am but trust me
You will find love and hope eventually

He mumbled then saying that I couldn’t know
The hardship and the sorrow that in his life did flow
I looked at him and said let’s talk awhile
Maybe I do I said with a simple smile

I was once lost and thought I was alone
Didn’t have anyone I could even phone
So I walked to the church and sat on a pew
Yes, I said, I was indeed like you

My eyes ran with sorrow, I had nothing at all
No reason to live, no one to whom I could call
My life was a mess, I wailed in the dark
No sunshine, no warmth, my whole life was stark

Then as I sat deciding what I could do
How I’d end it, I was so much worse than you
A shaft of sunlight touched my face
And I was filled by HIS wondrous grace

I know it sounds impossible, it did to me
I wasn’t worthy of saving I thought dejectedly
But I heard a voice, which whispered love
And I know that sound came from HIM above

So I’m telling you that this pain will pass
You will find love and hope which will eternally last
You don’t know all there is in this world we share
So please don’t drown your soul in so much despair

He looked into my eyes and I saw a spark
A signal that I’d lit a light in the dark
So I patted his hand and moved softly away
And as I was going I heard him begin to pray

He said that he hadn’t prayed for so long
Didn’t know the form and thought it was wrong
But he breathed a thank you to HIM on high
Then as I left the church I heard him sigh

A shaft of light lit the place where he knelt
And I recalled the wonder and peace I had felt
I whispered the word Love, knew YOU would hear me
Then I walked on my way smiling happily

Marsha, this is the most beautiful poem.
So loving and compassionate. I love it all,
And the ending just sums it all up. Thank
you for sharing this.

No one can say it better than someone who has known the depths of despair and the power of pain... and survived to smile again. Simply beautiful, my friend... well written! *S*

I know I shouldn't admit it, because you think I'm hard as nails, but this one has me a bit teary-eyed.

Oh love! This is wonderful, so soft and hopeful.

Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind.  Unknown
