Oh he of haunt and feathers black upon the sill of window nigh.
You stand in wait my heart’s attack to stifle from my lips a cry.
I say to thee my feathered fiend, a foe of blackened raven bird
I spied of you, your evil gleaned, a bead now taken waits one word

For on this night of tapping sill, I sit, I wait in waiting still.
My thought of but a raven’s kill upon the tap of tapping sill.
And when your flight does soar the eve until the eye of waking dawn
I’ll come to thee in stifled grieve and wait upon the green of lawn.

And as the pale of waning moon does turn to frost the grassy knoll
I’ll dust thy feathers doubly soon upon the sound of drummer’s roll.
And to the earth thy feathers will fall in slow curdling spiral scream
upon the tap of tapping sill in wait of but a raven’s dream.
