Those who are left
will have trouble remembering
her precise detail;
but we remember her garden
the pots that housed a million misfit plants
others would have disposed
without a thought.

Our persistent knocking
and her soft hesistant steps towards the door
her comfortable bed
and the radio singing out forties music,
horse races.

The room that held a mismatch of pins and buttons
tipped out and re-examined a dozen times
A careful collector of things
somehow deemed to be useful
the sewing machine I
never learned how to use
and her
a talented seamstress.

The unsettled feeling of watching strangers
see to the garden and her house
forgetting plants she had carefully tended
and making me wonder
who will take care of the roses
now that she is gone.

This will stay with me
while the passing of generations means we forget even those we may have loved
with whom we share blood
and makes me wonder how we will preserve
her gentle memory
for all the years to come.

(bi angel hugs) This is a most wonderfully heartfelt debut, sweet friend, this made me cry as I can understand how difficult it can be to cope with the loss of a loved one and wonder how the memory will be held dear! (sigh) This is a most gorgeous tribute, God Bless You, I love it! Welcome to Passions, sweet friend, may you be inspired by all of us here as we will all be inspired by your lovely words! I can't wait to read more of your wonderful words, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet friend, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Describes well what I felt seeing the changes new tenants made to my Grandmother's house.  I enjoyed this a lot.  Welcome to PIP...

celestecat - Welcome to Passions!  What a terrific first poem you posted.  This is so true regarding those who have touched our hearts eternally.  This poem of yours does preserve something of her, you know.     ....jo (iliana)

Sylvia O'Shea...

I think she must have been much like my grandmother...and, oh, how your words have brought her memory back to me tonight.  This is a wonderful entrance to our forum, dear...an absolutely tender write.

Welcome to our happy haven.  I hope you enjoy it here as much as I do.

I hesitate to say, you knew her very well...
very well.

Welcome to Passion!

This feels sooooo tender ... and so reminscent of how I felt with the passing of my own grandmother~
