I knew a storm was closing in
I opened the windows
On both sides of the house
I wanted to feel its full force
In the cross winds

It was a strange time of year
For a storm of this magnitude

Funny how the lightening warns
Of the coming thunder
Yet there is nothing to stop it
It comes whether you know it or not

But I knew
Even before the lightening

The wind had picked up
The thunder was both loud
And exciting
I didn’t jump; I smiled

The power excited me
It didn’t dismiss me
I loved it for that

Susan, this write stirs up memories of a personal storm.  Very enjoyable reading it, and with a double meaning, even if that wasn't your intention.  You have an excellent relationship with your weather storm!  ~K~

Susan, I enjoyed this. I like the
"storms" here, too. They can be fun.

Thank you all...

There was double meaning...but it was clean...I swear!

I've found another sister:

"I knew a storm was closing in
I opened the windows
On both sides of the house
I wanted to feel its full force
In the cross winds"

During one mild hurricane, my sister and I got bored, turned out the lights, and opened a door and a couple of windows...we danced in the driveway too--and this poem sounds like you know how that is....

Especially something your ready to embrace.

Indeed, love is an awesome power. You give a strong delivery of the intense symbol in this excellent poem. Grover.

*smile*  I would think that to treat you dismissively would be to stand in harm's way.

Very expressive and very well crafted.  Thank you for sharing this.

Susan
You have captured more than just the power of the storm here.....you have isolated for a moment something deep inside that craves an adrenalin rush...

Like "the lightning that warns of the coming thunder"

Something is sensual in this last statement:
"The power excited me
It didn’t dismiss me
I loved it for that"

Perhaps I feel it because I am male?

Susan...I love the feeling a storm brings too, but we haven't had one for a long time.  Enjoyed!

I tried that here at work - unfortunately, the windows aren't supposed to open on the 10th floor.  Who knew?!
