Don't Count On Me

Use me, run me ragged
with your reponsibilities.
Guilt my friendship into doing,
then forget I exist
and when you wonder
why I pass you ghostlike, maybe
it will be a lesson learned.

"Yes" me, "need" me.
Cry the "onlys" in me you find.
Yet forget I exist and there
will be no next time waiting
to heed your call.

My door will shut, deadbolted to words,
blinded with shades, to keep you out.

It isn't the weather that alone is freezing.
Commitment is becoming a word of the past,
and friendship a slur, no longer a guarantee,
as your prints have stepped on me once too often
and I am ready for a Spring melt.

M

Oh wow...you wrote this one for me, dear.  I have a couple of friends that I feel this way about...and have not written about that part of my life because I don't quite know how to condense all the feelings into something edible...YOU DID IT FOR ME!  This is great.

M~

Bravo!  I relate...it seems like my friends only have time to tell me how they are doing then they have to run...

Well done!

Oh wow! I understand this, more than you know. I have had friends like this, myself.
