Mother Earth

The water in the river
that we try so hard to tame
Evaporates into the clouds
to fall again as rain

The mountains that we try to cross
get higher by the day
The course we choose to follow
may not always pave the way

The sands of time fall slowly
when the minutes left are few
The dust that’s blowing in the wind
is made from me and you

We never really go away,
we simply change our shape
The cycle that is life is something
no one can escape

How many broken hearts are in
the roses that we grow?
How many lonely dreams fell in
the soil that we sow?

How many hopes have washed away
into a sea of red?
How many bones must crumble
just to make our daily bread?

The water that is life has been
here since the world began
We all must learn to share
with everybody in the clan

To say that we are earthlings,
really makes a lot of sense
Too bad we spend a lifetime
looking out, behind a fence

I echo Snow.
Very thought provoking.

Hiding behind the locks and chains
That lets my door open so far
Peeping out though the crack
Assuring my protection from afar.

Your poem makes me want to get out more and meet new people.  Seems like we may be missing so much all caged up in our little cubby holes.

I love Mother Earth.  I love that it's refered to as Mother, which is female, so to speak.  Although a dad can mother.  There's an idea...maybe we should view the title "Mother Earth" as "mother Earth", instead of using it as a proper noun, reading "mother" as a verb.  Get it?  We should mother the Earth, care for her, nurture her...and then I guess we'd be more politically correct, too, because we could eliminate a gender preference!

Your write was good, too, but I like the thoughts you have inspired in me.  Life is but a word game, isn't it?

(big angel hugs) God Bless You, dearest friend, I believe in the saying that "the land doesn't belong to us, we belong to the land." and now Mother Earth is all part of a crazy, mixed-up world! (sad sigh) I pray that she can recover from these terrors, this is beautiful, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Richy, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Richy, this is your best write yet, in my opinion. Both the message and the presentation were superb.
Good to read lofty thoughts like these.

great write...very clever...I especially liked the last stanza and the following line:

"How many broken hearts are in
the roses that we grow"

I've always found it 'funny' that the fossil fuel we put into our cars used to be known as Ethyl--always reminded me of some long-lost ancestral aunt
