~*~

A season of gathering besets me now
And someone new retraces steps I have walked before
Taking turns on a scenic route dotted with wise oak and pine
Echoing in low light to the open road of mind
Picking through the posies, shards and flecks that glitter eye
A princess tiara, smiled on and left its lopsided stay
Fairy tale reckoning and innocence tucked in my vest pocket
The baseball cap turned backwards plopped locks the same color
Highlighted by time
And tears like diamonds dew upon the leaves of womanhood
Carefully feeling through the tall green grass…sighs dance up my arms
My knees press into rich dark earth that cools an even ground
What I learned to discover, and oh…my first wings, pressed and folded
Those should come, and do
And then, the deeper forests where somehow I was lost
Into my vestment pocket copper tokens of fears
Dissolved when the light flickered through the canopy
Just there on the trail…I remember thinking I should go back
But the crumbs that were left kept me moving…to the meadow
Sand dollars grew amongst the wild wheat, my saucer filled with milk
A ride on snow to the shore, I should keep this
My back against the wise tall trees near a rippling stream I still go to
Skipping stones…ah yes…bring those, for they are gold
Superman’s cape spread on the grass
The banquet that I set still grand and royal blue
Grapes and berries swallowed in the slow sauntering come too
And scents accumulate to riches for a crystal bank
Where I will live from the wealth in the future
Dropping into wishing wells…one clink at a time
My fortune

OMG!  You have truly outdone yourself with
the descriptive imagery of this post.  May
we all walk a path as beautiful as this.

So many exquisite lines and this but the first one to grab me:

Taking turns on a scenic route dotted with wise oak and pine

This is truly a poem to be read and reread. There may be as many facets to it as in an autobiography of a long life.

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

Kathleen~
The highest compliment I can pay you is that I wish this had come from my very own inking well~
I have never said that to a poet before ... but this is just the truth as I know it~

You are a pleasure to hold poetic hands with in this neverending circle~

Diamond,
I saw this nearing the bottom and couldn't let this beauty round the corner until more had time to feast their eyes on it.  I enjoyed this and will end my readings tonight with your imagery.   Thank you.
