Written for a friend at middle school
whose pain I feel

Walk a Mile in My Shoes

If they could walk a mile in my shoes
they would know what it is like
to feel the pain I feel inside
like the stab of a sharp knife

If they could walk a mile in my shoes
then they would see
something beyond the outside
the true side of me

They don't know me
They don't know what I've been through
but if they could take the time
they could see what's really true

They don't like me by the inside
They hate me for what they see
To see such a dreadful sight
and not the true me

So feel what I feel the next time
you judge someone like me
Imagine that stabbing knife
The one you'll never see

is great that you speak these words to/for your friend. so many of us are judged by appearance...what is true lays within..and some people just to lazy to dig. tell your friend that the pain will subside, when she digs into herself and finds who she is...that will be enough.
we all must know ourselves first.

i enjoyed seeeing the concern for your friend written here.

Nice writing...and a very popular song in the 60's I believe..."Before you choose to criticize or abuse, walk a mile in my shoes."...James

(big angel hugs) Oh, dearest friend, it aches my heart deeply as this is too true and common in our society! (sad sigh) Know I send many angel compassion hugs to your friend as I too believe true beauty is on the inside and one should be able to feel for one from the inside and not the outside! God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet friend, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Beautiful and compassionate.
Yes, we always should walk that mile ... before judging.

Compassion is a very valued emotion.  If we deny compassion, we deny ourselves growth, and understanding.  When we see with clear eyes the pain of another, and work to erase that pain, we not only help one another, but find a new side of ourselves, as well.

How proud I am of you!

Oh, how cruel some can be, and it is not age or gender or race specific.  I enjoyed reading your poem and applaud you for your faith to your friend.

You made a three point basket with this one!
Yes, I agree with Sunshine.  Love your compassion!  Thanks for standing up and saying something about it...

CP - I find it amazing that they never seem to know, yet walk in my shoes once for a mile, and they will know, as you write...

Yes, my daughter, this is where understanding lies...in another's shoes.  The word is empathy.

Have I told lately you how proud I am of you?

Here's a big hug from your mom.

To understand another's suffering is a gift you give to them, and to yourself.  Thank you for sharing this.

Middle school is just the worst from what I've seen these days!  And, I will remember these words you've penned.  Thank you.

Keep writing. You are doing more for others than for yourself. The world needs more writers like yourself! Grover.
