Perception's Deceit

I am not the girl you think me to be
the one that is ever strong and up for the task,
with orders that are thrust upon my chest
that crush at my lungs, taking my breath

You may judge me to be an arrogant twit
just because I am not an unhinged chatterbox
but it's not what I am, for I'm scared to be that
because when I do speak out,i'm afraid of my voice

For it falters at times, cracking under the whips
those held by "the man" who pound on my head
seeping its insults into my brain
as I try not to fall for these harsh voices

But there are times when I can't, when I'm beat down too hard
and all I can do is fall down and cry
hiding in my facade of an arrogant silence
while all the while shaking and whimpering inside

And because of this, the girl who is hardly ever seen
fades even farther, deeper into the abyss of her soul's container
so don't judge me to be that girl you percieve
because you'll never truly know if you're right after all

I’m not usually one that is not able to express the way I feel about poems, even if I am about other stuff, but on this one? I can’t… For me I can relate so well to this, it hits so close to home, that I can’t offer anything other than a great job. I know that seems hardly adequate and I promise if I knew the words that would show how much I really liked this I would say them. Yet, since I can’t, I hope you are able to understand that I loved this more than you could imagine. It is and always will be one of my favorites I believe…

It is one that will go into my library I’m sure…
Thanks for sharing this one, you are a great writer in my book

Thanks for the comment Stargal! Let me just say it brightened my day to know that somebody likes and could connect with my writing. ^_^
