She climbs onto the bus
Not angry, just sad.
One look at her tells me
Her day had been bad.

What should I say?
What should I do?
Make eye contact?
Or just look away?

I might say "I'm sorry,
You seem to be blue"
But maybe it's best
To grant her solitude.

Or maybe reach out with a smile or two?
What should I do?
Suggestions are welcome
If you've walked in these shoes.

If I flash her a smile,
Will she respond with a snap?
A feeble thank you?
Or a visual slap?

Sitting quietly there for over a mile
With locks on her mind,
The physical body close by,
But with a heart far apart.

The she quietly steps off
And walks slowly home
And my heart reaches out
For she looks so alone.

So I step off the bus
And shout gently to her
"I'll see you tomorrow?"
Just to show her I care.

And I go home that night
To my own precious child
And suddenly I remember
it is Friday.
*

written from the heart of a mom
who has a teen
and who worked
as a school bus monitor

don't forget to reach out
and thanks for letting
an older woman post in here

I really enjoyed this.. I like your idea here very... well..let's just say from a different point of view.. I don't mind you writing here lol.. this is a good piece and it subsides from the usual that I read on "teen" considering you're not a teen.. very inspirational message.. I do believe it actually did me some good reading this.. hope to hear more..

Thanks, Heather. I promise not to hijack this forum but just wanted all to know there are many of us here who are good listeners, and know life's road can be very rocky.
One of my favorite songs from the past, sung by Carole King, was called "You've got a Friend"
and it's good to know, when times are tough, there are people who care.

Hey Midnitesun,

Awesome poem! It's good to get the "adults" side of things,
fraid it's much nicer than our side at times...lolz

No, seriously this was an amazingly pleasurable read (Yup, i'm using long words too! :P )
from start to end i couldn't stop reading, it held my attention and made me wish there was
more to read! what about a sequal? No, probably not, this one is perfect!

Thanks fer posting in the teen section, i wouldn't have seen it if you hadn't, so "i don't mind
if you post here" either

par, thanks!
and Amber...wanting more?
be careful what you ask for. Perhaps, next week after I return from 6 nights in a row of 'graveyard' duties. But I promise not to overdue my post-its.
I think teens are the greatest.
