As Abie Plays His Guitar

Like two paws picking a branch,
my friend makes little shapes of
sound. I can only smile,
feeling them join together.

I hear shapes on my own; they
arrive not in perfect form
but approximations, a
guess in letters with clumsy

hands, like his hands, like our thoughts
trying to clutch hold of a
river, trying to make a
tower out of water. We

build these and watch them collapse,
silly epiphanies, poems
at three AM and late night
jams: the sweet stuff.

i just turned 19 so i guess this is my last year i can post on this forum.
