Plug Your Ears

Jesse James' victim rides again,
screaming
as the day he stole her innards so many
years
before.

we all once understood how to collapse
with the left foot behind the right,
it was called fainting.
we are alarmed by the rythmic screaching,
wheels to track
track to earth.

how fast would i have to run to
escape
this town?
could the gutted train offer
redemption for a lad as old as i?

in the end we are all homeless and looking for a roof.

Wow, this is amazing writing, the second and third stanza’s stand out for me though. Outstanding work, well done.

this has the voice of someone much older.
and very wise.
a voice that speaks with deliberate understanding.
