the world’s crashing down, have you
heard her whispers yet?

silenced and overwhelmed, she sits
curling her hair between her fingertips
and looking for reasons to act okay.

[even though she has no concept of
what that means to her; she winces as
they dance in perfect time].

and she’s left alone on her hardwood
kitchen tiles to ponder the meanings
within meanings of the life she’s left
behind.

her dangly bracelets play the melody
she never could find within herself;
understanding her invisible footprints
took quite awhile to make sense of.

but the rocking chair still holds her
when the times come too often that
she can’t hold herself [up].

the world’s crashing down, have you
heard her whispers yet?

stability is hard to find within a smile;

and dancing in perfect time, she sits
and waits for her turn to shine.

i could be an accident, but i'm still trying.
