an akward state of mind

The light that pours from the postered windows is so bright,
illuminating the empty parking lot. No one seems to need gas at this hour.
My head checks around for following strangers, though I know I’ll see none;
but there’s always that chance on the dim sidewalk,
wandering the streets at dark, wondering why anyone else would be out now.
I can’t imagine any reasons. I can’t even think of ours.
To see the town when we are the only visitors,
there are no passerbys or friendly hellos, and no waiting to cross the street;
While the houses are sleeping, we are alone in our world, to travel as we please,
To listen to the silence of our cold rubber sneakers scraping the gravel,
And our curfew is daylight.
Stiff fingers hiding in sleeves, hood pulled tight,
The cold stillness seeps in through my old sweatshirt.
I’m sure we look suspicious, but we’re only walking
for a breath of fresh air, a midnight stroll. And no one’s there to look.
Why let the sidewalk hold you when the yellow line can lead you? It will never end.
When you are the only moving object there are no rules of wear to dance.
Let’s stop. Lie down on the asphalt. Right in the middle of the road.
Feel the cold rock underneath your back.
Lie down and look up at the stars. Stop worrying . Stop thinking. Let go.
Open your eyes to the vast dark sky.
The headlights would blind us before it got too close, if one came. But it won’t.
So look up at the sky and breath in that cold morning air.

I agree w/ Kissa...it ables you to imagine yourself with no worries for a minute or two.  Good work

hhmmm...I enjoyed this, I like how the person thats with you is kind of mysterious. Great writing. I like the part about lying in the middle of the road.
