Something is missing within me
the days only make my heart turn cold
I go through the motions,
I make people believe this facade about me.
As soon as the doors close
and the lights go out,
I am alone, all alone.
Insecurities rage in my head
whispering memories of my defeat.
I've always felt like I wasn't good enough,
or smart enough
or even pretty enough for anyone to love me.
Friends come and go these days
and slide the kinfe in my back deeper,
when they think I'm not looking.
Their incompassion used to hurt me
but somewhere along the line,
I stopped caring about them
and even about myself.

Something is missing within me
and I've run out of tears to cry.
Everywhere I turn,
it's another happy face
another celebration of someone's perfect life.
Bring out the confetti,
turn the music up louder
maybe if you try hard enough,
it will drown out the sound of my screams
Because when someone else is suffering,
people don't know what to do.
They pat your shoulder in that awkward way
and say that things will be okay,
promising to give you a call sometime.
But my phone has yet to ring,
I've been staring at it for days
and those people who said that
they would be there for me aren't...
and I'm left here to clean up the mess.

Something has been missing within me
I've felt it inside my heart for awhile now,
only I was too ashamed to admit it.
I've never been one to say I need help
and it seems like whenever I open my mouth these days,
everyone takes off running in the opposite direction.
I'm sorry for being such a screwup
but would someone please love me anyway?
I long for someone to put their arms around me
and hug me like they actually mean it.
I've been feeling so empty,
I could really use a friend.
This is my plea, can you hear it?
I'm pouring my soul out to you now.
Just me and this blue ink pen,
no one else around for miles.
And I'd really like to not feel so sad anymore
and I really miss not having you in my life,
so would you please come back,
so I can finally feel complete again?

I read through this poem and thought WHOA this is awesome when I finished. I just wanted to read over it again and again. The words show a lot of emotion...good work, as always! ~Jess
